Beginning Jan 30, some of the City of Mississauga’s MiWay fares will increase while transit fares for students and children will remain discounted.
“The fare changes are to help maintain a balance between providing affordable fare options for customers while considering cost recovery for taxpayers,” said Geoff Marinoff, director of Transit.
“As we continue our commitment to customer service, we encourage riders who travel frequently to consider monthly passes that offer the best value.”
Marinoff added that in changing the fare structure, the increase for seniors is lower than for adult riders.
The fare changes are as follows:
• Students and children: fares frozen at 2009 prices;
• Cash fares: increase by 25 cents (last increased in 2009);
• Adult tickets: increase by 10 cents per ticket;
• Senior tickets: increase by five cents per ticket;
• Adult weekly pass: increase by $1 per week;
• Adult Monthly Pass: increase by $4 per month;
• Senior Monthly Pass: increase by $3 per month; and
• Senior Annual Pass: increase by $30 per year.
“In this year’s budget, cost pressures included increases in labour, diesel fuel, hydro rates and a reduction in transfers from reserve funds,” said Marinoff. “To offset a portion of these budget pressures, changes to transit fares were required.”
