Big Loser wave sweeping GTA
Tuesday January 24 2012 By NOUMAN KHALIL Suddenly a ‘cutting the waist’ wave is breezing through the GTA’s political circles.

Inspired by Mayor Rob Ford’s ‘cut the waist’ initiative, Brampton-Springdale MP Parm Gill has launched his own weight-losing club.

Gill wants to see who is the biggest loser.

“It’s (Ford’s) great initiative, great opportunity, and we want the entire community to get behind this and create awareness,” said Gill while talking to Focus at his constituency office in Brampton last week.

“Come join us,” Gill invited residents, adding: “It’s also the perfect time as many people have already set their New Year resolutions.”

The MP launched the club by creating a group on his Facebook and a section on his website where residents can guide, encourage and share information about healthy lifestyle.

Through the group, Gill said he is providing a network of support where people can connect, set goals, plans and get useful tips from others in terms of losing weight and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Gill said he himself is committed to shedding at least 15lbs over the period of three months while his staff, both in Brampton and Ottawa, have also set their own goals.

“We are setting an ambitious goal within our Brampton and Ottawa offices and encouraging area residents to join our team. This is a perfect way to bring our cities together to share tips on healthy living and active lifestyles as we pursue our goal,” said Gill.

He said he seeks to be a role model for promoting proper eating habits, healthy lifestyle and physical fitness, especially when it comes to youth and kids.
