By NOUMAN KHALIL

Committing to provide quality healthcare system, the McGuinty government is providing additional post construction operating funding of $20 million to William Osler Health System to support increased patient care services at the hospital this fiscal year.

Joined by fellow Liberal MPPs Amrit Mangat, Dr Kuldip Kular and Vic Dhillon, Linda Jeffrey, Minister of Natural Resources and MPP Brampton-Springdale, last week announced the additional funding for the hospital.

"The additional funds will allow the hospital to expand services in inpatient and ambulatory care, ensuring more people get access to the care they need, when they need it," said Jeffrey.

The funding will support an overall 10 per cent increase in inpatient days and a 20 per cent increase in outpatient clinic and ambulatory visits from the previous year.

"It will help us increase the numbers of beds from 479 to 515 and improve different departments," said Ken White, Interim President and CEO of William Osler Health System. "William Osler Health System is well on its way to becoming a leading community hospital system in the country."

Since the hospital opened in October 2007, the government has provided more than $110 million in post-construction operating funding.

"Brampton Civic, like all newly built hospitals in the province, follows a careful post construction operating plan to ramp up resources to meet current and future community needs," said Duncan Glaholt, Board Chair, William Osler Health System.

Including the $110 million plus in post construction operating funding, William Osler Health System has received more than $166 million in increased base funding since 2003-04 with an estimated increase of some 68 per cent.
