Gulzar retrospective set to music Apr 16
Wednesday March 10 2010

After the huge success of Black&White last year, Aavishkaar&Bollywolly Entertainment Inc are presenting one more Hindi musical show, this time based on  Gulzar - the institution in music.

Gulzar - Baat Pashmine Ki is based on the life and works of the renowned poet, lyricist, writer, and Director Gulzarji.

Sampooran Singh Kalra, better known by his pen name Gulzar, has won a range of awards, including the Padma Bhushan, the Sahitya Akademi Award and, in 2009, the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Jai Ho.

The show is an audiovisual experience with excerpts from his various films, like Aandhi, Ijaazat, Kinara, Mausam, Angoor to name a few.

The show also includes poetry and prose excerpts from his works like Pukhraj and Raavi paar, as well as the Oscar-winning Jai Ho.

Famous singers from India Vibhawari Apte, Swarada Gokhale,  Hrishikesh Ranade and Jitendra Abhyankar render the musical score.

The non-musical contribution features noted artistes like Kishore Kadam (Soumitra) and Girish Charwad with his live paintings, which add colour to the experience.

An added attraction as compare is famous film personality Sachin Khedekar.

The show is conceptualized and directed by Milind Oak, whose Black&White was a huge success in Toronto and in the United States.

This show has done an estimated 75 performances throughout India, as well as a couple of shows in the UK. It is now coming to the US and Canada.

Here in the GTA, the show is scheduled to premiere Friday, April 16, 2010, at 8pm, at the Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School (2 St Andrews Blvd, Etobicoke, Toronto, M9R 1V8).
